"The Academy" is a police cadet story, mainly focusing on how cadets go through 27 weeks training in PTS. Many said it's a remake of Tony Leung's "Police Cadet Story '85", but I have not watched it, so I can't comment if the 2 series are similar or not.
The series starts out with Chung Lap Man (Ron) persuading his good buddy, Keong to undergo training in PTS, but his real motive is to save his family; his parents separated and he thinks that the culprit behind all this is a trainer in PTS, Lee Man Sing (Michael Miu). Actually his parents separated because his father had a mistress, so Ivy wanted to separate. Man wants to join in the cadets to make sure he can keep an eye on Lee Sir to reunite his family. Man is kinda rebellious and playful at this stage, but he loves his mother, Ivy (Michelle Mai) very much. His mother had arrangements to send him for further studies overseas, but he's not really the studious type so he persuaded to let his mom stay back and join PTS. His mom agreed on the condition that he must not back out halfway through training or else he'll be sent overseas.
