Plot

The nine characters are revealed to be: 1 - a petty criminal, 2 - a police officer, 3 - a strip club owner and loan shark, 4 - a gun runner, 5 - a priest, 6 - a lawyer, 7 - a woman who owns a convenience store, 8 - a pedophile and rapist, 9 - a health insurance executive.

All of them confess to some of their worst sins as they try to figure out how they might have become a target for abduction and murder. As they pursue the truth, obstacles include the gun runner's refusal to cooperate, the convenience store owner's very rudimentary English, and the priest's oath never to reveal what has been told to him in confidence.

It eventually becomes clear that each of the nine abduction victims had a hand in sending an innocent young man to prison, where he contracted AIDS through prison rape. His health insurance denied coverage for an experimental drug that might have saved his life. His father has abducted the nine people he holds responsible for his son's death.

The remaining characters offer that answer to their abductor, who releases them. However, it's the lawyer who reveals herself to be the most dangerous character. She has admitted to falsifying evidence to convict the innocent young man, and to killing a man after he raped her. To keep the secrets she confessed, she kills the abductor and the other survivors and escapes... leaving "nine dead."
