Fighting in movies for almost 30 years, action hero Jet Li takes a big turn by playing a disease-ridden father who desperately looks for a shelter for his autistic son, Da Fu (Wen Zhang), before he dies.

The movie is said to be based on a true story, although it leaves us wondering whether Da Fu comes to a good end.

Indeed, the future of a 21-year-old autism patient in China is an uncertainty because of the country's unstable social security system. Maybe that explains why the film's kindhearted director makes every character in the movie a model citizen after finding that the system doesn't provide much help.

As a volunteer for 14 years at an educational organization for autistic children, first-time director Xue Xiaolu wrote the screenplay and made this movie with no more than 7 million yuan—that's an amount that doesn't even come close to paying Jet Li's salary for the film. We can infer that Lee also "volunteered" for the movie, and that it is a project molded by pure love and gracious intentions. But to be objective, the film doesn't carry the same weight in cinematic merits whatsoever.
